Representative in opposition proceedings
Opponent's representative
An opponent who has no domicile or registered office in the European Economic Area (EEA) must appoint a representative residing in the EEA to represent the opponent in the opposition proceedings. If the opponent has a representative, the opposition must include the representative's name, domicile or place of registered office, contact details, and Finnish Business ID, or personal identity code if the representative is a private person. Indicate the date of birth if the representative has no Finnish personal identity code.
As a rule, we do not require a power of attorney to be submitted. If we have a special reason to doubt the existence or scope of the representative’s authority, we will ask for a power of attorney via an office action.
Owner’s representative
As a rule, if the trademark owner gives their statements through a representative, we do not require a power of attorney to be submitted.
