Trademark disputes

Disagreements and disputes can arise over trademarks, as they can with any other types of property. Trademark disputes often relate to the right to use or own a trademark.

Most trademark disputes are handled by the PRH or the Finnish Market Court.

The PRH processes oppositions against registered trademarks, as well as applications for administrative revocation or invalidation.

The court with jurisdiction depends on the case. The Finnish Market Court handles most trademark cases and all appeals against the PRH’s trademark decisions. Helsinki District Court has jurisdiction if the case involves trademark violation, an industrial property offence infringing the exclusive right to a trademark, or any related claims for compensation.
