Apply for a utility model

File your utility model application with the Finnish Patent and Registration Office (PRH), which is the registering authority. A utility model registered with the PRH is valid only in Finland.

How to proceed with your invention

Do not make your invention public.

Before filing a utility model application, find out what kinds of inventions or solutions already exist. Read more about how to determine the novelty of your invention.

Use our Utility Model Guide (available in Finnish and Swedish) and the instructions on this website to prepare the application on your own. Open the guide in Finnish. (pdf, 1.3 MB) Open the guide in Swedish. (pdf, 1.3 MB)

You can also consult a patent attorney or agent to ensure your application is as good as possible. Read more about patent attorneys in the Patents section.
