Beware of misleading messages about trademarks

Scam messages are in circulation. The messages are directed to companies and people who have filed a trademark application. The messages claim to be from the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and request a registration fee or other corresponding payment. The messages might also involve a registration certificate or another document bearing the EUIPO’s logo.

The PRH urges you to take special care regarding any messages that request a payment to a public authority for trademark registration and offer services for publishing trademarks.

Read the message carefully before you pay or commit yourself to anything. The EUIPO and the PRH do not send any invoices by letter or email.

Most scam letters are in English and come from abroad, but some letters may also be sent from Finland in Finnish.
