Watch out for misleading letters and payment reminders

The design right applicants and owners entered into our databases unfortunately receive many misleading letters, false invoices and payment reminders.

The letters may demand, for example, that you pay a renewal fee or a separate registration fee. Most of the letters are in English and come from abroad, but some letters may also be sent from Finland.

Read the message carefully before you pay or commit yourself to anything. All our letters always clearly include: FINNISH PATENT AND REGISTRATION OFFICE (PATENTTI- JA REKISTERIHALLITUS).

We publish information about misleading letters and payment reminders on a regular basis on our website and on Mynewsdesk Open link in a new tab and send news releases to the media.

Read the warnings published on the websites of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)Open link in a new tab and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO)Open link in a new tab.
