How to protect yourself and your company from scams

On this page, we have compiled information about how you can protect yourself from scams in Trade Register and trademark matters. Read further instructions by clicking on the links under each subject or by opening the the subpages in the main menu.

Take special care of personal identity codes and home addresses

The Trade Register is a register for public use. Anyone is entitled to obtain information about the entries made in the register. This principle of open access also applies to all notifications and enclosures filed with the Trade Register. Therefore, do not declare any personal identity code and home address unless specifically requested. When you send notifications, do not include any documents that contain personal identity codes, home addresses, or sensitive details, such as health details.

Beware of misleading communications

As a client of the Finnish Patent and Registration Office (PRH), you might receive letters, phone calls, invoices and payment reminders that have nothing to do with the PRH. Such misleading communications can unfortunately nowadays come in good Finnish, not just in English or poor Finnish anymore.

For example, there are scam messages circulating in the name of the PRH and urging you to log in to a service that is actually a scam website. It is safe to access our services via our prh.fi website, by entering prh.fi or www.prh.fiAvautuu uuteen välilehteen in the browser (not via a search engine).

The Digital and Population Data Services Agency (DVV) warns against scam messages sent in the name of Suomi.fi. They can be sent by e-mail, text message or Whatsapp. Read more on dvv.fi: Watch out for scam messages!Avautuu uuteen välilehteen

Beware of scam websites

Follow closely which website you are at. Scam websites may include content from the PRH websites and the layout can be similar to them. Check the website address in your browser. The website you are at right now is at https://www.prh.fi/en.

The exact address of our front page is https://www.prh.fi/en/index.htmlAvautuu uuteen välilehteen, but you can also get there safely by writing only prh.fi or www.prh.fi. It is better to type these short options into the browser itself than to enter the pages through a search engine – scam websites may appear in the search engine results.

The other PRH website, ytj.fi, is at https://ytj.fi/en/index.htmlAvautuu uuteen välilehteen. You get there by writing ytj.fi/en or www.ytj.fi/en.

Be alert when identifying yourself and always check the website address. The correct address for Suomi.fi e-Identification is https://tunnistautuminen.suomi.fi.

Use our services

The PRH provides services that can help you protect yourself from scams. These services are free of charge.

Private trader: choose only online notifications

Private traders can still choose to submit their notifications on paper forms. As of 2026, other company types must file their notifications to the Finnish Trade Register online.

When you file your notification for a private trader using the online service at ytj.fi, choose that your company can only file notifications online. This is how you make sure that only authorised persons will be able to file notifications with the Finnish Trade Register for your company in the future. Monitor changes in your company’s details in the Finnish Trade Register

You will receive an announcement about changes in your company’s details by email, if the address is up to date in the Trade Register.

Check your details and file a prohibition of registration

You can check what details about you have been entered in our registers.

If you suspect that your personal data are being misused, file a prohibition of registration with the PRH. We will then not register you as a person responsible for a company, an association or a foundation without contacting you first and asking for your consent.

What to do if you suspect a company takeover or a scam?

If you suspect that someone has filed without permission a notification with the Finnish Trade Register in your company’s name, you should contact the Trade Register’s advisory service immediately.

If necessary, report the offence to the police.Avautuu uuteen välilehteen
