Changes to Patent Regulations and Utility Model Regulations from 1 July 2022

The Finnish Patent and Registration Office (PRH) has adopted new Patent Regulations and Utility Model Regulations. The regulations have been changed due to the new WIPO Standard ST.26, which takes effect on 1 July 2022. The standard relates to biosequences in patent applications.

Changes to the Patent Regulations:

  • The new WIPO Standard ST.26 has been taken into account
  • Linguistic changes were made
  • Annex 1 has been repealed as unnecessary (Special orders for the processing of such patent applications relating to foodstuffs or medicinal products as have been or are deemed to have been filed before 1 January 1995)
  • Annex 2 has been revised (Special orders concerning electronic filing)

Changes to the Utility Model Regulations:

  • The new WIPO Standard ST.26 has been taken into account
  • The Utility Model Regulations have been harmonised with the Patent Regulations
  • Linguistic changes were made
  • Annex 1 has been revised (Special orders concerning electronic filing)

The new regulations enter into force on 1 July 2022 and will be published on our website. The Utility Model Regulations will only be published in Finnish and Swedish.
