How to protect yourself and your company from scams

The Finnish Patent and Registration Office (PRH) provides services that can help you protect yourself from, for example, company takeovers and false notifications. These services are free of charge.

Watch out for misleading phone calls and letters

Phone calls where you are being offered the opportunity to update your company’s details in a “company register" are not made by the Finnish Trade Register at the PRH. The only situation where the Finnish Trade Register may contact you by phone is if there are gaps in your company’s notification.

It is particularly trademark applicants and owners who receive misleading letters and false invoices. Please note that all our letters always clearly include: Finnish Patent and Registration Office (Patentti- ja rekisterihallitus).

Choose only online notifications at

When signing a notification in the online service at, choose that in future your company can file notifications online only. In this way, you make sure that no one but authorised persons can file notifications with the Finnish Trade Register and the Finnish Tax Administration for your company.

Monitor changes in your company’s details

When filing a notification of changes with the Finnish Trade Register, we inform your company by email as soon as the notification has arrived at the Finnish Trade Register.

If you have not filed your company’s email address with the register, you can agree with the PRH on sending the email message.

Check your details and file a prohibition of registration

You can use the service at to check whether you are registered as a responsible person at the Finnish Trade Register. For example, a board member is a responsible person.

If you suspect that your personal data are being misused, file a prohibition of registration with the PRH. We will then not register you as a person responsible for a company, an association or a foundation without contacting you first and asking for your consent.
